Archie Ross was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1923, and gave his life to the Lord at age 13 in Sunday School. As a young man, he was involved in evangelistic outreach, and teaching at meetings in and around Glasgow. He was later commended as a missionary from the Christian Brethren Union Hall Assembly and left for Africa in 1949. He married Virginia in 1951, and they spent 42 years serving the Lord together on the mission field, in Northern Rhodesia (during which time they had four children, Elizabeth, Jean, Ian and Moyra), in Southern Rhodesia, and lastly in South Africa. There he was involved in an Emmaus Correspondence ministry, preaching on Radio Pulpit (a branch of Trans-World Radio), and preaching and teaching in the assemblies. After Archie and Virginia left for the USA in 1991, Archie suffered a stroke and was confined to a wheelchair, but was still able to preach at the local assembly in Simi Valley, California, and teach in their home at Bible study meetings. They returned to Africa in 2002 and settled in Fish Hoek, South Africa until the Lord called him home in 2005. |
