DAILY?READINGS: 2 Chronicles 14-15; Ezekiel 36:16-38; John 14:15-31

…for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.  I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.  Philippians 4:11-12

Often these verses are quoted whenever someone speaks about the importance of contentment in the Christian life. In them Paul says that he has learned to be content. But what was Paul’s secret? How did he learn? He states in the next verse: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” If we want true contentment, we can only attain it by looking to Christ for strength. —J. In Thee alone, O Christ, my Lord, my hope on earth remaineth;
I know Thou wilt Thine aid afford, naught else my soul sustaineth.
