DAILY READINGS: Gen. 32-33:17, Psalms 1:1-3:8, Matt. 18:15-35

Saul defeated the Amalekites…But Saul and the people spared Agag (the king). 1 Samuel 15:7, 9
And the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king…Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall live.” Joshua 6:2, 17

What a contrast between what God, as opposed to man, spares from destruction! God is not impressed by the king with all his pomp, power, and prestige. But God is merciful to the prostitute whose heart has turned to the true God. He hears the cry of the penitent sinner regardless of their station in life. “Call to me and I will answer you” (Jeremiah 33:3), He promises. —D. Logan
