1 Samuel 4:1- 5:12; Isaiah 47:1-15; 2 Corinthians 8:1-24

Have pity upon me, have pity upon me, O ye my friends; for the
hand of God hath touched me. Job 19:21

Job longed for a touch of pity from his friends—but he never got
it. Note the desperation in his appeal in the repetition of the words,
“Have pity upon me”. Thankfully, there’s a friend that sticks closer
than a brother! Even if every earthly friend fails, God will never
fail. Though for a time, it may seem like God is failing us, we must
remember that while God may afflict us with His left hand, He
always will find a way to comfort us with His right hand. Weeping
may last for a night; joy comes in the morning. —Shane Johnson

Oh, weary pilgrim, lift your head:
For joy cometh in the morning!
For God in His own Word hath said
That joy cometh in the morning! —M. M. Wienland
