DAILY READINGS: 1 Kings 15:33-16:34; Jer. 27:1-28:17; Col. 4:2-18

He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 2:24

This verse has been used by God to bring the assurance of salvation to many people. It answers to the question, “Why the cross?” The Lord Jesus in His coming to Calvary dealt with this outstanding need of humanity, their sinfulness. Only He could do it, for no one else was sinless. He bore our sins in His death on the cross that we might “live to righteousness.” He “was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification” (Romans 4:25). Is He your Saviour? —Reg. L.
