Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love…and offer him there as a burnt offering. Genesis 22:2

Are we tempted sometimes to think that the sacrifices God asks us to make are not fully appreciated by Him? Not so. God could have told Abraham to take “Isaac.” Instead He says, “your son“—his heir; “your only son“—if he were gone there would be no other; “Isaac“—whose name reminded Abraham of his supernatural birth; and finally, “whom thou love“—evoking all the yearning of a father’s loving heart. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. —D. Logan

Faith hearkens to God, and believes what He says; His gifts it receives,
His commands it obeys; With the promise its stay, and the precept its
guide, It is faith to obey and the Lord’s to provide. —W. Blane
