2 Chronicles 18:1-19:11; Ezekiel 38:1-23; John 15:17-16:15

“Woe to the rebellious children,” says the Lord, “Who take counsel, but not of Me, And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit.” Isaiah 30:1, NKJV

How many wrong choices and decisions in our lives can be attributed to not first asking God for counsel? Israel’s defeat at Ai (Josh. 8), and their deception by the Gibeonites, can all be traced back to not asking “counsel at the mouth of the Lord” (Josh. 9:14). We too, can be spared much heartache and unwise life choices by first seeking the advice of our all wise and wonderful Counselor, the Lord Jesus Christ (Isa. 9:6). —E. V.

Jesus, Saviour, pilot me over life’s tempestuous sea;
Unknown waves before me roll,
Hiding rock and treacherous shoal;
Chart and compass came from Thee:
Jesus Saviour, pilot me.—E. Hopper
