DAILY READINGS: 2 Chronicles 31:1-21; Ezekiel 47:1-23; 1 John 1:1-2:11

For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water. Jeremiah 2:13, KJV

Trekking across the Ngangela plain we were hot, tired and thirsty, longing to reach the well. Suddenly there it was! But our hopes were crushed—it was broken and dry! Have you spent years seeking satisfaction in the broken cisterns of this world? With all your shattered hopes, come to the Lord Jesus Christ who said, “the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:14, KJV). —David Croudace

I tried the broken cisterns, Lord, but ah! The waters failed!
E’en as I stooped to drink they fled, and mocked me as I wailed.
Now none but Christ can satisfy, none other Name for me!—B. B.
