Genesis 15:1-16:16; Job 18:1-19:29; Matthew 8:28-9:17

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go to the house of the Lord. Psalm 122:1

Luke records the story of a woman who had been badly crippled for 18 years. He says she was bent over and could not straighten up at all. The Lord Jesus adds that she had been kept bound by Satan for all those years. But despite this severe handicap and the associated disfigurement, this woman was at the synagogue. Her infirmity did not keep her from worshiping with God’s people. Her need drew her to God. How glad she must have been that no pain or discomfort or shame had kept her away on that Sabbath, for the Saviour met her there and set her free. —M. MacMullen

O Lord, it is Thyself to meet;
To this sweet feast we come. —Boethia Thompson
