Deuteronomy 22:1-23:8; Joel 3:1-21; Luke 12:22-40 –

She hath done what she could: she is come aforehand to anoint my body to the burying. Mark 14:8

Not only did Mary do what she could, but she did it while she could. Others coming to anoint His body three days later found an empty tomb and their lovingly prepared spices were never used. Once the Lord has returned it will be too late to offer “my spices”. Too late also for those to whom I should have spoken, but didn’t. Not only is today “the day of salvation” (2 Cor. 6:2), but today is also the day of service for “the night cometh, when no man can work” (John 9:4). —David Croudace

Work, for the night is coming, work through the sunny noon;
Fill brightest hours with labour, rest comes sure and soon. —Anna L. Goghill
