1 Samuel 16:1-23; Isaiah 55:1-56:8; Romans 2:1-29

He shall not fail. Isaiah 42:4

The Father sent the Son to take away the sin of the world. No one else in Heaven or earth could do it. Anticipating the struggle, the Son experienced deep anguish, “My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death” (Matt. 26:38), and “being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood” (Luke 22:44). He experienced weakness,“My heart is like wax; it is melted… my strength is dried up like a potsherd” (Ps. 22:14-15). Finally He died. Prevailing through anguish, weakness and death, He triumphed. He did not fail! —P. W.

His precious blood alone availed to wash our sins away;
Through weakness He o’er hell prevailed,
Through death He won the day. —Hannah K. Burlingham
