2 Samuel 22:1-51; Jeremiah 6:1-30; Ephesians 1:1-14

He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:8

Our Lord foretold His death, burial, and resurrection, as He looked beyond Golgotha to glory. Yet death by crucifixion was like no other. In the context of public shame and excruciating suffering, there is no other means of death quite so horrifying. The cross simultaneously shows us the extent of humanity’s cruelty, the depths of our sinfulness and the scope of God’s love.
