David Livingstone: The Missionary Traveller
Classic Biography Series
By: Samuel Mossman

The life-work of David Livingstone was better known to previous generations than to the present one, but we ought not to forget him. This biographical sketch is an account of the achievements of perhaps our greatest missionary traveller, and is reprinted to coincide with the 200th anniversary of his birth.

David Livingstone was born in the village of Blantyre, Scotland in March 1813 and at the age of twelve was gravely exercised over his own spiritual condition. At twenty-five he was summoned to London by the Directors of the London Missionary Society, and after passing an examination, was sent to undertake three months of probation with the Rev. R. Cecil. Livingstone had first intended to go to China but the Opium War was raging and the country was closed to missinaries. He then resolved to go to Africa and set sail on the 8th December 1840.
