The End of a Nation: Studies in the Book of Obadiah By: Paul Young
This small book on the prophecy of Obadiah was first preached in young peoples’ rallies in the city of Cardiff in South Wales. I confess that I had never until that time preached from Obadiah and so it was breaking new ground in my ministry. Those messages were thoroughly revised and formed a series of radio broadcasts for the Trans World Radio programme ‘Truth for Today’. They are now given a more permanent format, which we trust and pray will prove a rich blessing to those who love to study the word of God.
In some ways the book can be viewed almost as an allegory of the warfare, which every Christian experiences between the ‘flesh’ (pictured as Edom in the prophecy) and the ‘spirit’ (pictured as Jacob in the prophecy). There is undoubtedly much validity to such an approach. However, I have taken the text within it’s historical, geographical and political setting and have drawn out the spiritual lessons, which i trust, will be helpful to those who read this book.
