Description

Marian Carter often referred to herself as a Yorkshire lass. Born in Leeds, England, she moved to Vancouver, Canada in 1919 with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Snowdon. Brought up in a very strict religious environment, including considerable time in a convent during the years of the first World War, Marian and her mother had very set ideas about their faith. When Marian was still quite young, her father obtained a Bible. When he began to read it serious tensions developed in the family concerning their religious convictions. Eventually the message  of the Scriptures prevailed and all three turned to the Lord. Marian was in her mid teens when she committed her life to the Lord Jesus in 1926. She was baptized the same day.

It was in a convent in Leeds that Marian was first told about missionaries who went overseas to share the Christian faith with others. She was only a child of six when she first heard these fascinating  stories,  yet something very important was planted in her young heart at that time. Shortly after her commitment to Christ, she met a young woman (Isobel Miller [Kuhn]) who was preparing for missionary work in China. The seed planted in her heart many years before produced beautiful fruit that day as Marian yielded to the Lord’s call for missionary work overseas.
