For many years the prophetic Scriptures received scant attention from the majority of theologians. Thus their writings on eschatology-the doctrine of last things-are quite confused and confusing, while in other areas of truth most helpful. In contrast, from the very first, prophecy has occupied an important place in the preaching, teaching and writings of those Christians commonly called “Brethren”.
In the Bible the prophetic element is prominent. It is one of its unique features. Fulfilled prophecy is one of the clearest and most irrefutable proofs of inspiration that we have.
An orderly prophetic forecast of the future has been given us though the Spirit-directed ministry of any gifted teachers of the Word. This has been accepeted by the majority although there have always been dissenters. Today, however, with the winds of change blowing strongly from every quarter this outline of future events is being questions by many, vigorously attacked by some.
The time has come for us to face the situation, carefully check our position by the infallible Word of God, and then proclaim the Truth we believe with no uncertain sound.
One of the most hotly contested points in the whole prophetic outline is the Rapture and the Revelation of Christ. This we propose to examine in this brief study.
