Instead of exercising today’s spiritual gifts, many people are trying very hard to speak in tongues. This emotional experience is thought to be a gift of the Holy Spirit, which is clearly described in the New Testament by the apostle Paul as an inferior gift. James Gunn had the blessing of Christian parentage and was saved in his early teens. Educated as an industrial chemist, he spent only two and a half years in the vocation before the Lord called him into full-time service for Himself in 1922.
