Description

Mark’s Gospel is the shortest and most action packed of the four gospels. As the first verse states, it presents to us the “gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God”. ‘Gospel’ means good news and we hope that after reading one of the books of the Bible you will want to read them all.

“Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:14-15).

Marginal Notes

This Gospel is published with marginal notes for three reasons:

  1. This translation is the King James Version, first published in 1611. Some words need to be explained that are not in current use or that have changed their meaning.
  2. There are themes or thoughts that appear throughout the gospel. Marginal comments allow the reader to trace some of these themes, and then re-examine the context and setting of each reference.
  3. Some biblical illustrations are not automatically understandable to a modern western mind and require explanation. Marginal comments of this nature are not frequent, as we believe Scripture should speak for itself.
